Unleashed on an
unsuspecting television audience in the fall of 1986, Sledge
Hammer centers on a renegade police detective (David Rasche)
whose credo is shoot first and ask questions six months
later. Armed with his trusty .44 magnum, the eponymous hero
doles out his unique brand of justice to any piece of
criminal scum who is unlucky enough to cross his path. The
recipient of critical praise and much controversy, this
comic spoof of DIRTY HARRY has enjoyed a growing cult status
since it left the air in 1988. This 4-volume collection
includes the entire first season of the all-nonsense cop
show. |

A parody of violent
cop shows and movies such as DIRTY HARRY and HUNTER, SLEDGE
HAMMER had a short run on network television but has garnered
a cult fanbase since its cancellation. David Rasche stars as
Hammer, a humorless, trigger-happy cop who shoots first and
asks questions later. After blowing up all of Los Angeles at
the end of the first season, SEASON TWO begins with a
disclaimer stating that the new episodes take place a few
years earlier. This gives merely a hint of the off-beat, often
politically incorrect humor that drove the program. This
collection features all 19 episodes of the second season,
which would prove to be SLEDGE HAMMER's last. Guest stars
include character actors such as Ray Walston, Bill Bixby, Bud
Cort, and 1980s music star Adam Ant. |
